Welcome to the Idaho State Trapshooting Association
Trapshooting has a long history in the State of Idaho. The records of the ATA shooters from Idaho include Singles Champions since 1914, Ladies Champions since 1921, and Junior Champions since 1927. The Lewiston Gun Club, founded in 1881, has been known as the "oldest Gun Club in the US. Though not actively operating, this Club still has an organized Board of Directors, many members and continues to reestablish the physical club entity. The original Idaho State Trapshooting Association (ISTA) was formed in 1948 to promote the interest of trapshooting and make regulations pertaining to those events which members participate. The current ISTA is organized and functions solely for the enjoyment of its members and all fees collected are used for operating expenses and prizes awarded to participating shooters. The ISTA sponsors an annual state shoot where members are eligible to win prizes and trophies based on their shooting performance at the state event. Other shoots sponsored by the ISTA include various local gun club events, some of which have been conducted for greater than 100 years.
The ISTA is a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) and except where special conditions exist, is governed by the rules of the ATA. The ISTA has one delegate who represents the association at official ATA meetings. Any individual who is a resident of the State of Idaho and a member of the ATA is eligible to become a member of the ISTA. Membership is achieved by participating in a registered trap shoot held in Idaho under the rules and regulations of the ATA.
A general membership meeting is held annually at the State Shoot at a date and time specified in the shoot program. Minutes of the previous meeting and a financial statement are presented to the members at that time.
The ISTA is proud to carry on the tradition of shooting sportsmanship and camaraderie for which Idaho has been known, and welcomes the participation and support of the trapshooters who share the love of the sport.
